Riley Metcalf - Surf

Although he’s already been ranked consistently in Surfer Magazine’s “Hot 100” list, Riley Metcalf is more focused on getting the job done than receiving notoriety. His determination and hard work have already paid off, with accomplishments like winning back-to-back Surfing America USA National Championships in 2005 & 2006, and proudly representing the country as a 4-year member of the US Surf Team. Outside of the water, he demonstrates the same tenacity, managing to balance surfing and serious schoolwork. Taking advanced placement classes and maintaining a 3.7 GPA, Riley is setting the stage for college and a spot on the ASP World Tour. While all of these responsibilities and aspirations may seem daunting to some, Riley says the hardest part about surfing is waking up first thing in the morning when the waves are the best. Riley has a can-do attitude and pro surfer Kelly Slater inspires him the most. “He’s super powerful and just never holds anything back. He goes for it every time,” Riley says. His best advice to anyone who wants to make it in surfing (or anything for that matter) is to never give up. “Keep trying and you’ll get where you want to go,” he says. With serious goals and the willpower to back them up, Riley is definitely on his way.
