 | Dusty Payne sets himself apart from the pack by pushing his style and progression in the water. The Maui resident lives by the idea that, “Someone with good style is someone you enjoy watching while they surf. No one wants to watch you if they don’t like how you look.” Big airs, such as Dusty’s signature air reverses, and other less conventional maneuvers won him Transworld SURF’s "most photogenic" honor last year. This surfer knows how to get “the shot.” He’s racked up heaps of editorial exposure in magazines, including covers in major magazines such as April 2007’s Surfing.
This year Dusty is taking his photo-ready moves to film and shooting with Taylor Steele, while continuing to compete in WQS and Pro Junior events. His skills and powerful surfing both on big waves and smaller beach breaks propelled him to wins at the Billabong Junior Pro in the NSSA and a standout performance at the 2006 Cold Water Classic. His goal, like many of his peers, is to one day surf on the ASP World Tour. Unique to Dusty is his intent to get there only if it can be done with style.
Results: 2006 Explorer Men’s NSSA Title, 2006 Open Men’s runner-up, 1st at 2006 Billabong Junior Pro at Kewalos, 1st place in three different age divisions at 1995 Hawaii NSSA State Championship
