When Sammy Carlson was 12-years-old, rumor has it he walked up to acclaimed ski filmmaker Johnny DeCesare after a premiere and announced he would someday be in one of his movies. DeCesare may have written it off at the time, but in 2006 Sammy made good on his word. He landed the opening segment of DeCesare’s 2006 Poor Boyz film, “Ski Porn.”
The Portland, OR native is considered one of the best young new-school skiers out there, sticking switch 1080s in big comps like the X Games and the U.S. Open of Freeskiing. He owes his technical freestyle savvy to skiing year-round and spending the summers at Windell’s on Mt. Hood, tearing up the legendary park alongside some of skiing’s biggest names. Sammy has established himself as a top competitor, racking up some impressive slopestyle results including a gold medal in the 2006 King of Style in Stockholm, Sweden and silver at the 2007 Winter X Games. One of the most talented riders of his generation, Sammy has proven his ability to go well beyond the contest scene. In the last few years he has filmed with Matchstick Productions, Rage Films, and—as promised—John DeCesare himself of Poorboyz. Check out his new film segments coming out this year!
