Koa Smith - Surf
 |
Straight out of the Irons brothers’ backyard on the North Shore of Kauai, Koa Smith is set to light up the scene. He has a national title under his belt and surfs twice a day, everyday, with home schooling sandwiched between sessions. The goofy-footer has it pretty good at home with breaks like Pine Trees in Hanalei Bay right up the road, a quiver of 30 surfboards to chose from, and even a system of skateboarding ramps in his backyard that rival most parks. Koa’s surfing has been described by Andy Irons as “having a lot of style, but he’s also got some power for a kid his age.” Getting barreled comes easily to Koa because of his small stature and tendency to ride low on the board. His older brother Alex is on all of the “surfers to watch” lists, which gives Koa some serious motivation from within his own family. He’s keeping up with his brothers by racking up contest wins from the National Title to four Haleiwa Menehune championships. Koa makes one-of-a-kind custom jackets, owns his own company “Little Fella Designs” and sports them on the red carpet especially while interviewing pros at the Surfer Poll Awards. Koa is a star in and out of the water, known for his quirky personality and leopard-print suits.
