Jossi Wells - Ski
 |
“I was pretty much born on snow,” says Jossi Wells. Talk about a family resort, Wells grew up at Cardrona Alpine Resort in New Zealand, where his dad was the head of ski patrol and his “mum” ran the childcare center. He started ski racing by age seven, “boosting airs on the racecourse” and wherever else he could find them. When freeskiing got big in New Zealand, it was a natural fit for Jossi, who won his first ski race in rental skis and old boots.
These days he’s fully sponsored and has become a regular contender around the globe in both the halfpipe and slopestyle events, winning second place at the 2008 X Games and the 2008 Nippon Open. But his international recognition is nothing compared to his popularity back home. In 2006 he won the New Zealand Snow Sports “Person of the Year” award. Also a skateboarder, Wells is constantly working on technical tricks even when he’s not on snow and stays fit by training at the gym. With three younger brothers following closely behind, it’s only a matter of time before the Wells brothers share the podium together.
