Ellery Hollingsworth - Snowboard
 |
The East Coast has produced many halfpipe champions and Ellery Hollingsworth is about to join their ranks. Hollingsworth is leading the charge for women’s snowboarding as the first woman to nail a backside 900 in a quarterpipe competition. It probably helps that she got her start chasing two big brothers on the icy slopes of Bromley, VT, and went to high school at the top “boarding” school in the country, the Stratton Mountain School. As a standout amateur, she was a shoe-in for the U.S. Snowboard Rookie team in 2006. Ellery made the U.S. Snowboard pro team in late 2007 when she claimed a fourth-place finish at the season-opening Grand Prix halfpipe event in December and earned a spot as the youngest competitor at the 2008 Winter X Games. As the season progressed she stayed in the top 10 of every Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix and Swatch Ticket to Ride event that she entered. Ellery has proved she’s a well-rounded rider, capable of landing on the podium for halfpipe, quarterpipe, slopestyle and rail jams and if there’s anyone to point out as an Olympic hopeful, she’s the one. Placing 6th at the US Open Halfpipe at the prestigious US Open, Ellery is positioned in the top echelon of women’s riders going into next season.
