Broc Waring - Snowboard

“It was a long-term goal that came way sooner than expected,” Broc Waring told the Vail Daily when he was asked to join the U.S. Snowboard Freestyle Rookie Team in eighth grade. It was big news in Broc’s hometown of Edwards, CO, when he was named the only new male addition to the squad. The humble Warnig would be the last one to say anything, but his riding alone was enough to bring him into the spotlight. “I told my good friends but that’s it,” Broc said.

Broc has been on the fast track to riding pro since his family moved to Colorado when he was nine. Within two years he was throwing backside 720s, (long before they were the norm for kids his age) with the reliability that U.S. Team coaches needed. He honed his skills training with the U.S. Team and the rest of the Nike 6.0 crew at Mt. Hood last summer following a solid winter season with top 15 finishes at both the Mt. Bachelor Grand Prix and the Lake Placid World Cup. After snagging a coveted spot on the U.S. Team for 2008, it’s clear that the coaches saw something in Broc that the judges must have really missed.
